So I've been away for the past few weeks travelling around Italy, Greece and Turkey with the family, taking lots of pictures and experiencing different cultures.
Whilst in places such as Ephesus, Rome and Athens, I saw a load of roman ruins, and the architecture of their time really fascinates me. The amount of effort is put into each stone building/arch/statue is phenomenal, and to think that they were sculptors that sat in that scorching heat for long periods of time creating such beautiful work is amazing. The most astonishing thing out of everything though is the fact that it's all still standing after 2000 odd years. I highly doubt that the buildings we produce in today's society, with modern materials such as glass will last at least half as long.
In order: Athens, Ephesus, Rome
Whilst in Rome, I visited the Vatican, seeing all the sculptures and painted rooms. I really liked Michelangelo's work, particularly in the Sistine Chapel, seeing one of his most famous works "The Creation of Adam". There was one room in particular in the Vatican that stood out to me the most, and this was a long room painted with maps (The Gallery of Maps) of Italy by Ignazio Danti and it took him 3 years to finish it. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of this room, but I loved the detail of each map and the room itself was beautiful.
